We get a short hands-on of Crytek and EA’s upcoming shooter.
In a hazy little room in a popular cafe in Dubai, EA and Grayling Momentum (PR representatives) organized a casual hands-on event for the press to try out Crytek’s anticipated shooter Crysis 2. Half expecting to see the Xbox 360 version, my radar sprung to life when it detected a PS3 lying on a bunch of chairs. Ahh, the PS3 version finally!
Abdul Karim, our main man from Grayling, showcased a part of the single player demo, which he says is the very first levels of the game. He claims to have perfected the short demo, but as you can see from the initial video, that’s far from the truth. Not all of the videos has him playing, there were some good players among us too, so here they are. We tried to avoid any spoilers, so the gameplay footage are from different (and random) parts of the first level.
Our hands-on with the demo will be up soon; however, visually speaking – leave no doubts, the PS3 version looks spectacular and on par with anything you have seen on the platform. The frame rates are below 30 for the most part but the engine does well to not be a major issue during firefights. Of course, this is an early build of the game, so expect bugs and glitches to be ironed out in the retail version.
